Counselor's Page

Welcome to Smithton High School’s Counseling Page!

Heather martinHi. My name is Heather Martin. This is my fourth year as a 7-12 School Counselor and I am excited to be a part of the Smithton family. I worked in higher education for almost 10 years in the college admissions office and through that time I was able to meet many high school counselors. Because of that experience I knew I wanted to be a school counselor as well.

I attended Benedictine College in Atchison, KS for my B.S. in History and received my M. Ed. in School Counseling from Stephens College.  I was born and raised just down the road in Tipton, MO and come from a line of educators and farmers.

I am an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan while my husband cheers on the Royals. We have a son, Will, who loves singing songs, watching Star Wars movies and doing obstacle courses or anything else physical. In our spare time we enjoy taking mini-road trips throughout Missouri and beyond.

One of the many reasons I felt drawn to education and school counseling specifically was the desire to help others. Small acts of kindness can go a long way in helping someone get through their day. A quote I like is, “To the world you may be one person but to one person you may be the world.”  I look forward to my time at Smithton and getting to meet the students and families here.
