Character Education

Smithton K-4 Character Recognition

At Smithton Elementary we continually strive to emphasize the importance of good character. One way we do this is to focus on one character trait per month, September through April. Our character traits are chosen through surveys of parents, faculty, and staff.

To honor and recognize these recipients a monthly character assembly is held on the last Monday of the month. Classroom teachers choose their honorees and write letters describing the ways their choice exemplifies the monthly trait. Group pictures are taken at the assembly and displayed in the elementary hall and family pictures are available to view on the webpage.

We have begun a new recognition this year. We are now also celebrating weekly character students chosen by classroom teachers. Names are announced on Fridays and those students come to the office for their certificates and a celebratory dance party!
